What can encrypted communications reveal?

Most online communication today is encrypted. This makes it difficult for network administrators to determine which applications are being transmitted via encrypted traffic. This causes problems when detecting malware, combating the use of dangerous applications, and so on. Our experts from the NES@FIT group have developed a system that can generate a set of distinctive characteristics (known as a ‘fingerprint’) for a given application and, based on this, identify the application within real-world encrypted traffic. Come and try it out for yourself: connect with your mobile phone and we’ll show you which applications you’re currently using. Of course, your user data remains hidden.
