Communication is not just words, gestures, or spoken language in interpersonal interactions. In the digital world, it takes the form of data, signals, and algorithms that transmit information, recognize speech, analyze text, or connect humans with machines. At our faculty, we investigate how computers process communication, how data analytics helps uncover hidden connections, how deepfakes and disinformation are created and spread, and how speech and language technologies enable machines to understand and process human language. During this year’s Science Night, we’ll show you that information technology is increasingly determining what we hear, see, understand, and even believe.
