Workshop

Small wireless IoT devices are often battery-powered, and maintaining them can be both difficult and environmentally unfriendly. Visitors will be able to see for themselves how the data transmission interval affects the energy consumption and battery life of a smart sensor (a tracking keyring). In the demonstration, it is possible to alter the device’s behaviour and immediately observe the impact on the battery status. You will also learn about the principle of dynamic communication scheduling, whereby the device automatically adapts its behaviour according to the availability of power from the battery and a small solar panel. Significant savings can be achieved not only through the use of better hardware, but also through smarter control via software, which we are developing at FIT VUT.
