The Institute of Forensic Engineering will take you into the world of analytics, technicians and rescue workers from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm. What you can look forward to:

• Crash test & extrication (7.00 pm and 9.00 pm)

  Watch a simulated accident in real time and the subsequent response by the Fire and Rescue Service. During the event, firefighters will demonstrate and comment on the procedure for extricating the injured and their coordination with one another.

• Equipment and the lives of rescue workers

  Between the rescue demonstrations, professional firefighters will be on hand to answer your questions. Take a close look at their rescue equipment and ask anything you’d like to know.

• EDR: What a car’s ‘black box’ reveals

  A talk focusing on modern vehicle communication. Find out how accident data (Event Data Recorder) is used to reconstruct the course of a crash and how forensic engineers interpret what the car recorded just before the impact.

• Acoustic laboratory: Noise vs. concentration

  Experience for yourself how distracting noise affects your attention and reaction times. We’ll also measure how loudly you can communicate with others in challenging conditions.
