Hamza's Sanatorium
Hamza's Sanatorium in Luže-Košumberk is a specialized rehabilitation institute with a tradition spanning over a hundred years.
It provides follow-up and long-term care for both children and adults from all over the Czech Republic.
All the buildings at Hamza's Sanatorium are wheelchair accessible.
The sanatorium was founded in 1901 by Prof. MUDr. František Hamza as the first treatment center for children with tuberculosis and scrofula in Central Europe. In 1962, tuberculosis treatment in Luže ended, and the sanatorium was repurposed as a facility for the rehabilitation of children with mobility impairments. Since 1992, adult patients have also been treated here. With a capacity of 505 beds across ten pavilions, it is the largest rehabilitation facility of its kind in the Czech Republic. An integral part of the sanatorium includes not only a primary and kindergarten school but also a modern orthopedic prosthetics department. Hamza's Sanatorium is an accredited follow-up care medical facility according to SAK standards in the Czech Republic.
