In our nanocatalysis laboratories, we prepare tiny catalysts known as clusters. These particles are smaller than one nanometre and consist of just a few atoms. To give you an idea of their size, the clusters we work with are approximately 50,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair.

We prepare these clusters using two vacuum deposition systems called “Big Brother” and “Little Brother”. We then investigate their catalytic properties, including with the help of a reaction cell made of 24-carat gold.
